In value terms, cellulose pulp machinery exports declined rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Sweden (X units) was the largest exporter of machinery for making pulp of fibrous cellulosic material, generating 50% of total exports. Finland (X units) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (9%), Poland (6.7%) and Austria (6.4%). The following exporters - Germany (X units) and France (X units) - together made up 6.9% of total exports.

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest cellulose pulp machinery supplier in the European Union, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.9% share.

Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 35%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, Finland ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for making pulp of fibrous cellulosic material in the European Union, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sweden ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Estonia, with an 11% share.

In Finland, cellulose pulp machinery imports increased at an average annual rate of +32.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sweden (+2.4% per year) and Estonia (+20.8% per year).
