By contrast, Poland (-3.4%), the Netherlands (-4.6%), Belgium (-6.6%) and Hungary (-12.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Bulgaria, Romania, the Netherlands and Poland increased by +8.3, +3.5, +3.1 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest tobacco making machinery supplier in the European Union, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with an 8% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a 6.5% share.

Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 55%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, declining by -3.5% against the previous year. Import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
