The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +78.9% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +31.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while Croatia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.8% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The purchases of the four major importers of machines for making containers of paper or paperboard, namely Italy, Germany, France and the Netherlands, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Poland (X units) and Spain (X units), together achieving a 15% share of total imports. The Czech Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 8.3%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
