Goat Meat Market Size in the EU

France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with an 11% share.

In Greece, goat meat production declined by an average annual rate of -8.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+0.4% per year) and France (-6.9% per year).

In 2022, the average goat meat yield in the European Union reduced to X kg per head, falling by -2.1% on the year before. Overall, the yield showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the yield increased by 6.8%. After two years of decline, overseas shipments of goat meat increased by 1.8% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 37%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, goat meat exports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +21.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2022, Spain (X tons) was the main exporter of goat meat, making up 39% of total exports. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), Greece (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together making up a 57% share of total exports. Romania (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 12% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
