Metallised Yarn Market Size in the EU

The EU metallised yarn market fell slightly to $X in 2022, waning by -4.8% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +16.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 18%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metallised yarn exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The shipments of the three major exporters of metallised yarn and strip, namely Lithuania, Belgium and France, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together achieving a 21% share of total exports. Spain (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +61.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest metallised yarn supplying countries in the European Union were Belgium ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 83% of total exports. Italy, Lithuania, Spain and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 11%.

Lithuania, with a CAGR of +33.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -5.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, metallised yarn export price decreased by -15.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metallised yarn imports declined to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 31%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Italy (X tons), distantly followed by France (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the main importers of metallised yarn and strip, together committing 88% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +29.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
