Microphone Market Size in the EU

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in the EU microphone market, when its value decreased by -12.3% to $X. The total consumption indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +54.5% against 2015 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, microphone production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +7.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 24%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In 2022, after eight years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of microphones and their stands, when their volume decreased by -19.9% to X units. In general, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 27%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, microphone exports plummeted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 43% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Belgium (7.9%) and Poland (7%). Denmark (X units), Hungary (X units), Romania (X units), France (X units), Sweden (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Italy (X units) and Spain (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to microphone exports from Germany stood at +7.3%. At the same time, Romania (+41.2%), Poland (+30.1%), Hungary (+20.5%), the Netherlands (+16.2%), the Czech Republic (+10.5%), Sweden (+6.3%), Spain (+4.9%), France (+4.3%) and Belgium (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +41.2% from 2012-2022. Denmark experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+7.7 p.p.), Poland (+5.8 p.p.), Romania (+2.7 p.p.) and Hungary (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Germany (-4.1 p.p.), Italy (-4.3 p.p.), Denmark (-4.3 p.p.) and Belgium (-5.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest microphone supplier in the European Union, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Denmark, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany stood at +6.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+21.3% per year) and Denmark (+4.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 25% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

In 2022, supplies from abroad of microphones and their stands decreased by -21.1% to X units for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, microphone imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 27%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) represented roughly 41% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units), France (X units), Poland (X units) and Belgium (X units), together making up a 33% share of total imports. Italy (X units), Hungary (X units), Spain (X units), Denmark (X units), Sweden (X units), Austria (X units) and Greece (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +36.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported microphones and their stands in the European Union, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 10% share.

In Germany, microphone imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+20.9% per year) and France (+9.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 9.7% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
