Belgium, with a CAGR of +18.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -2.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +52.8% from 2012-2021. The Czech Republic experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Belgium (+24 p.p.), Spain (+3.2 p.p.), Portugal (+3 p.p.), Denmark (+2.5 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Romania, Poland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, France and Germany saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -2.7%, -4.1%, -5.7%, -6.6% and -8.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 71% of total imports. Italy, Spain, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Denmark, Romania and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.

Among the main importing countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +31.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -13.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 41% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
