In 2021, purchases abroad of motor boats and motor yachts, for pleasure or sports increased by 59% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 81%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. The countries with the highest levels of motor boat imports in 2021 were the Netherlands (X units), Belgium (X units) and Malta (X units), together accounting for 61% of total import. Finland (X units) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Sweden (7.3%) and Spain (4.6%). France (X units) took a minor share of total imports.
