From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +4.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest internal combustion engines supplier in the European Union, comprising 29% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 12% share.
In Germany, internal combustion engines exports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Poland (-4.6% per year) and Austria (-4.1% per year).

Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 6.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 9.8%.
