Narrow Woven Fabric Market Size in the EU

The EU narrow woven fabric market expanded markedly to $X in 2021, picking up by 5.5% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 4.5% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of narrow woven fabrics were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 8.3%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany represented the key exporter of narrow woven fabrics in the European Union, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 27% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Italy (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Belgium (X tons), together creating a 56% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to narrow woven fabric exports from Germany stood at +4.5%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+6.7%), Slovakia (+5.9%), Romania (+3.2%), France (+2.2%) and Italy (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +6.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Spain (-1.5%), Belgium (-5.5%) and the Netherlands (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic increased by +6.8, +2.3 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 60% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Among the main exporting countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +3.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+3.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of narrow woven fabrics, when their volume increased by 14% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 18%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild increase. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

The purchases of the eleven major importers of narrow woven fabrics, namely Germany, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Hungary and Slovakia, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +8.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 2.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 7.6%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
