Network Communications Equipment Market Size in the EU

In 2022, the EU network communications equipment market increased by 5.5% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +46.1% against 2020 indices. After six years of growth, shipments abroad of network communications equipment decreased by -14.6% to X units in 2022. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 24%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, network communications equipment exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

The biggest shipments were from Germany (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Poland (X units), together recording 74% of total export. It was distantly followed by France (X units), comprising a 5.6% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belgium (X units), Sweden (X units), Denmark (X units), Hungary (X units) and Spain (X units) - together made up 14% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest network communications equipment supplier in the European Union, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands was relatively modest. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+5.9% per year) and the Czech Republic (+7.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -2.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 8.2% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of network communications equipment, when their volume decreased by -7.8% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, network communications equipment imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany was the largest importer of network communications equipment in the European Union, with the volume of imports recording X units, which was near 40% of total imports in 2022. The Netherlands (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by the Czech Republic (10%), Poland (8.7%) and France (5.6%). The following importers - Belgium (X units), Spain (X units), Hungary (X units), Italy (X units), Sweden (X units) and Denmark (X units) - together made up 16% of total imports.

Germany was also the fastest-growing in terms of the network communications equipment imports, with a CAGR of +13.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+12.4%), Denmark (+10.2%), Spain (+7.7%), the Czech Republic (+6.9%), France (+4.4%), Belgium (+3.6%), Sweden (+2.6%) and Italy (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Netherlands (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+19 p.p.) and Poland (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Italy, Hungary and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -2.8% and -16.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest network communications equipment importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 60% of total imports. Poland, France, Hungary, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Sweden and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +14.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 11%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
