Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +72.7% against 2016 indices. From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +22.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 55% share of total exports.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +27.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 12%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 17%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, non-wheat flour imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +60.6% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the five major importers of non-wheat flours, namely Spain, Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands, represented more than half of total import. Poland (X tons) held a 5.1% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Greece (4.8%) and Italy (4.7%). The following importers - Romania (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) - together made up 10% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 42% of total imports. France, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Austria, Greece, Portugal, Romania and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.
Greece, with a CAGR of +14.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
