The EU aromatic monoamines market soared to $X in 2021, with an increase of 21% against the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a noticeable setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of other aromatic monoamines and their derivatives, salts thereof decreased by -0.9% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

In value terms, aromatic monoamines exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 23%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 66% of total exports. Belgium (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (8.8%). Slovakia (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of other aromatic monoamines and their derivatives, salts thereof. At the same time, Slovakia (+70.9%), the Netherlands (+22.5%) and Belgium (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +70.9% from 2012-2021. Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Slovakia (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-4.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest aromatic monoamines supplier in the European Union, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 14% share.

In Germany, aromatic monoamines exports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (-5.1% per year) and Italy (-0.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU

In 2021, supplies from abroad of other aromatic monoamines and their derivatives, salts thereof increased by 3.2% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after three years of decline. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +106.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, aromatic monoamines imports reached $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Belgium represented the major importer of other aromatic monoamines and their derivatives, salts thereof in the European Union, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 39% of total imports in 2021. Germany (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 21% share, followed by Italy (16%) and France (13%). The following importers - Poland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Spain (X tons) - together made up 8.3% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +8.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest aromatic monoamines importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +11.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, rising by 9.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+13.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
