While the share of the Netherlands (+35 p.p.), Luxembourg (+3.2 p.p.) and Ireland (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Spain (-3.6 p.p.), Italy (-4.1 p.p.), Belgium (-4.8 p.p.), France (-10.9 p.p.) and Germany (-14 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, Italy, Poland, Ireland, Belgium and Luxembourg, which together accounted for a further 22%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +14.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -1.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
