The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 61%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Romania was the key importer of particle accelerators in the European Union, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 37% of total imports in 2021. Poland (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 8.9% share, followed by Sweden (8.3%), Italy (7.4%), France (7%), Germany (6.1%), Greece (5.6%) and Austria (5.6%).

Imports into Romania increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Austria (+83.6%), Greece (+34.7%), Poland (+27.1%), Sweden (+21.4%) and Italy (+17.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Austria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +83.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, France (-3.2%) and Germany (-16.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Romania, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Austria and Greece increased by +23, +8, +7.1, +6, +5.6 and +5.3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Italy ($X) and Austria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 44% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Austria, with a CAGR of +75.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -41.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
