The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dry peas exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +24.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 45%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, France (X tons), distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Estonia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the key exporters of peas (dry), together committing 80% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to dry peas exports from France stood at -3.2%. At the same time, Latvia (+88.0%), Estonia (+37.8%), Belgium (+26.2%), Lithuania (+21.2%), Germany (+8.0%) and the Czech Republic (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Latvia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +88.0% from 2012-2021. Latvia (+11 p.p.), Belgium (+10 p.p.), Lithuania (+8.7 p.p.) and Estonia (+5.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while France saw its share reduced by -37.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, France ($X) remains the largest dry peas supplier in the European Union, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.4% share.
In France, dry peas exports declined by an average annual rate of -2.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+17.8% per year) and Germany (+5.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, the amount of peas (dry) imported in the European Union shrank slightly to X tons, declining by -3.1% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 116% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dry peas imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 75%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of dry peas imports in 2021 were Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together reaching 81% of total import. It was distantly followed by Latvia (X tons) and France (X tons), together mixing up an 11% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Latvia (with a CAGR of +59.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest dry peas importing markets in the European Union were Belgium ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 54% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Spain, France and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
Latvia, with a CAGR of +51.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 18% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decrease. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
