Piper Pepper Market Size in the EU

The EU piper pepper market fell to $X in 2022, waning by -10.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a mild reduction. Exports in the EU

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of piper pepper decreased by -9.4% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, piper pepper exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the largest exporters of piper pepper in the European Union, together accounting for approx. 54% of total exports. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Austria (X tons), together comprising a 25% share of total exports. Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Italy (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 62% share of total exports. Austria, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Latvia, with a CAGR of +8.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 9.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of piper pepper decreased by -15.8% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, piper pepper imports stood at $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Germany was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 30% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together constituting a 45% share of total imports. Austria (X tons), Romania (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of piper pepper. At the same time, Romania (+5.1%), France (+3.6%), Poland (+2.9%), Austria (+2.8%), the Czech Republic (+2.6%), Italy (+2.2%) and Sweden (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belgium (-2.1%), the Netherlands (-4.1%) and Spain (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. France (+3.6 p.p.) and Poland (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Spain and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -4.7% and -7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported piper pepper in the European Union, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 13% share.

In Germany, piper pepper imports decreased by an average annual rate of -3.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+0.2% per year) and the Netherlands (-5.4% per year).

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced reduction.
