For the fourth consecutive year, the EU peroxosulphates market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 7.6% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption recorded a remarkable increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Peroxosulphates Production in the EU

In value terms, peroxosulphates production fell modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 11%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

Exports in the EU

After three years of decline, overseas shipments of peroxosulphates (persulphates) increased by 16% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, peroxosulphates exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Belgium was the largest exporter of peroxosulphates (persulphates) in the European Union, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 40% of total exports in 2021. France (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (15%) and Italy (15%). Spain (X tons) and Austria (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of peroxosulphates (persulphates). At the same time, France (+16.5%), Austria (+11.5%), Italy (+7.9%), the Netherlands (+4.1%) and Spain (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, France emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +16.5% from 2012-2021. Belgium (+26 p.p.), France (+18 p.p.), Italy (+12 p.p.), the Netherlands (+11 p.p.), Spain (+2.6 p.p.) and Austria (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest peroxosulphates supplier in the European Union, comprising 37% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 14% share.

In Belgium, peroxosulphates exports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+17.9% per year) and Italy (+6.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 21% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, peroxosulphates export price increased by +70.9% against 2015 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+3.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

In 2021, the amount of peroxosulphates (persulphates) imported in the European Union skyrocketed to X tons, surging by 21% compared with 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, peroxosulphates imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +91.0% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Italy represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 33% of total imports. Belgium (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by France (X tons), Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 51% share of total imports. Austria (X tons) and Finland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +8.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Belgium ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 57% of total imports. Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Austria and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Among the main importing countries, Austria, with a CAGR of +12.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.5% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 9%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Austria ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+6.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
