Belgium (+6.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest photographic paper supplier in the European Union, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands stood at -8.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (-1.2% per year) and Germany (-6.4% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per square meter in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per square meter), while Italy ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles decreased by -30.7% to X square meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, photographic paper imports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X square meters), distantly followed by Germany (X square meters), Belgium (X square meters), Poland (X square meters), Italy (X square meters) and France (X square meters) represented the key importers of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, together making up 83% of total imports. Spain (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +31.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 58% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +17.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per square meter in 2021, picking up by 25% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per square meter), while the Netherlands ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
