Cement Pipe Market Size in the EU

The EU cement pipe market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a pronounced decline. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Italy (X tons) held a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Poland (8.5%), Belgium (5.5%) and Austria (4.6%). The Czech Republic (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Ireland (X tons) and France (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ireland (with a CAGR of +14.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 69% share of total exports.

Spain, with a CAGR of +13.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cement pipe export price increased by +73.1% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of pipes and other articles of cement, when their volume decreased by -3.1% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, cement pipe imports totaled $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +89.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 31%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2022, France (X tons), followed by Germany (X tons), Austria (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Latvia (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main importers of pipes and other articles of cement, together mixing up 68% of total imports. Poland (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Croatia (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Luxembourg (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Croatia (with a CAGR of +18.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 45% of total imports. Italy, Austria, Sweden, Belgium, Poland, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Croatia, Lithuania and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +15.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 4.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+9.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
