In 2022, the EU plastic doors and windows market decreased by -8.2% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. For the ninth consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in overseas shipments of plastic doors, windows and their frames, which increased by 11% to X units in 2022. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +76.0% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic doors and windows exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 25%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Poland was the key exporting country with an export of about X units, which recorded 57% of total exports. Romania (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X units) and Slovakia (X units). All these countries together held approx. 25% share of total exports. Austria (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic doors and windows exports from Poland stood at +9.4%. At the same time, Romania (+14.1%), the Netherlands (+4.5%), Austria (+4.1%) and Slovakia (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +14.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Germany (-2.1%) and the Czech Republic (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+16 p.p.) and Romania (+6.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Czech Republic (-3.9 p.p.) and Germany (-9.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest plastic doors and windows supplier in the European Union, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to +13.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Romania (+17.3% per year) and Germany (-2.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, growing by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

In 2022, supplies from abroad of plastic doors, windows and their frames decreased by -20.7% to X units for the first time since 2013, thus ending a eight-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, plastic doors and windows imports contracted to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +95.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of plastic doors, windows and their frames, namely Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Denmark, Lithuania and Romania, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +10.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic doors and windows importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 47% share of total imports. Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Hungary, Lithuania, Denmark and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +15.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
