Bulgaria (X tons), Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Italy (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Slovakia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the platinum exports, with a CAGR of +42.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Italy (+9.2%), Spain (+8.2%) and Bulgaria (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. The Czech Republic and Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Denmark (-1.9%) and Belgium (-9.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Slovakia increased by +55 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest platinum supplying countries in the European Union were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 89% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Spain, Slovakia, Denmark and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further 4.7%.
Among the main exporting countries, Denmark, with a CAGR of +11.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per kg in 2021, declining by -50.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per kg in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per kg), while Slovakia ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) represented the major importer of platinum, achieving 43% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Denmark (X tons), Spain (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together comprising a 39% share of total imports. The following importers - Italy (X tons) and France (X tons) - each accounted for a 7.9% share of total imports.
Imports into Belgium increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Spain (+38.1%), Denmark (+19.6%), Italy (+12.8%) and Slovakia (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +38.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-1.2%) and France (-14.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belgium, Spain, Denmark and Italy increased by +13, +11, +7.9 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest platinum importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising 72% of total imports.
Italy, with a CAGR of +8.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per kg in 2021, declining by -40.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 81% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per kg. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per kg), while Slovakia ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
