In 2022, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the EU footwear treatments market, when its value increased by 76% to $X. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The shipments of the nine major exporters of polishes and creams for footwear or leather, namely Germany, Spain, Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, the Netherlands, France and the Czech Republic, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +19.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 40% of total exports. Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +24.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, falling by -5.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 9.7%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X tons of polishes and creams for footwear or leather were imported in the European Union; increasing by 20% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced slump. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
