Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main importers of prepared skins of birds in 2022, finishing at near 25% and 19% of total imports, respectively. France (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X tons) and Italy (X tons). All these countries together took near 21% share of total imports. Belgium (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Austria (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 52% share of total imports. Italy, France, Poland, Bulgaria, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.

Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +44.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
