In 2022, the EU non-rolled bitumen products market increased by 1.5% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, showed prominent growth. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-rolled bitumen products exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 8.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

In 2022, the amount of non-rolled bitumen products imported in the European Union contracted notably to X tons, which is down by -17.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 15%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-rolled bitumen products imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Germany (X tons), followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and France (X tons) were the major importers of non-rolled bitumen products, together generating 60% of total imports. The following importers - Bulgaria (X tons), Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Austria (X tons) - together made up 26% of total imports.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
