The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.4% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, Belgium (X square meters) was the key exporter of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings, creating 38% of total exports. Luxembourg (X square meters) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X square meters), France (X square meters), Sweden (X square meters) and the Netherlands (X square meters). All these countries together took approx. 48% share of total exports. Poland (X square meters) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings exports from Belgium stood at +12.3%. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Belgium totaled +9.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+1.7% per year) and Germany (+1.8% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per square meter in 2022, increasing by 2.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 10%. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per square meter), while Poland ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings, when their volume decreased by -2.1% to X square meters. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, imports of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In 2022, Germany (X square meters), distantly followed by France (X square meters), Belgium (X square meters), the Netherlands (X square meters) and Italy (X square meters) were the main importers of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings, together creating 69% of total imports. Poland (X square meters), Spain (X square meters), the Czech Republic (X square meters), Portugal (X square meters), Sweden (X square meters), Austria (X square meters), Luxembourg (X square meters) and Denmark (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +20.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 50% of total imports. The Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Portugal, Austria, Denmark and Luxembourg lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.

Italy, with a CAGR of +17.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per square meter in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per square meter), while Luxembourg ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (-1.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
