Motor Vehicle Radiator Market Size in the EU

In 2022, the EU motor vehicle radiator market increased by 8% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +16.7% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, motor vehicle radiator production dropped modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the EU

In 2022, approx. X units of radiators for motor vehicles were exported in the European Union; declining by -2.3% against the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 14%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, motor vehicle radiator exports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the three major exporters of radiators for motor vehicles, namely the Czech Republic, Germany and Poland, represented more than half of total export. Slovakia (X units) held a 9.3% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Spain (6.9%) and France (5.8%). The following exporters - Romania (X units), Sweden (X units), Italy (X units), Denmark (X units), Hungary (X units), Portugal (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) - together made up 21% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 55% of total exports. Slovakia, Spain, France, Italy, Romania, Sweden, Hungary, Denmark, the Netherlands and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.

Among the main exporting countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +9.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 6.4% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the Czech Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

In 2022, overseas purchases of radiators for motor vehicles were finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, motor vehicle radiator imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 17%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Germany was the largest importer of radiators for motor vehicles in the European Union, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was approx. 32% of total imports in 2022. The Czech Republic (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Spain (9.3%), Poland (8%), Slovakia (6.2%), France (5.7%) and Italy (5%). Hungary (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Sweden (X units), Denmark (X units), Austria (X units) and Portugal (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to motor vehicle radiator imports into Germany stood at +4.1%. At the same time, Hungary (+9.4%), Portugal (+8.5%), the Czech Republic (+8.3%), Poland (+8.1%), Spain (+5.8%) and Italy (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +9.4% from 2012-2022. Austria, Denmark, Sweden, France and the Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Slovakia (-16.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+11 p.p.), the Czech Republic (+6.3 p.p.), Poland (+4.3 p.p.), Spain (+4 p.p.) and Hungary (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Slovakia saw its share reduced by -30.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported radiators for motor vehicles in the European Union, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 7.9% share.

In Germany, motor vehicle radiator imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+9.2% per year) and Spain (+6.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Portugal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
