The average raspberry and blackberry yield expanded rapidly to X tons per ha in 2022, with an increase of 11% against the year before. The yield indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, raspberry and blackberry yield decreased by -8.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the raspberry and blackberry yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the raspberry and blackberry harvested area in the European Union declined slightly to X ha, which is down by -2.5% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the harvested area showed a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 7.9%. The level of harvested area peaked at X ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the EU
In 2022, approx. X tons of raspberries and blackberries were exported in the European Union; picking up by 5.3% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
Spain was the major exporter of raspberries and blackberries in the European Union, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 46% of total exports in 2022. Portugal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons) and France (X tons). All these countries together took near 47% share of total exports. Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Spain increased at an average annual rate of +16.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Portugal (+23.1%), the Netherlands (+18.8%), France (+15.6%), Germany (+9.1%) and Belgium (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +23.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Poland (-3.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+14 p.p.), Portugal (+12 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+6.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium and Poland saw its share reduced by -1.6% and -26.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the largest raspberry and blackberry supplier in the European Union, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Portugal ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 18% share.
In Spain, raspberry and blackberry exports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.1% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Portugal (+19.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+14.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -12.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+14.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
Raspberry and blackberry imports was estimated at X tons in 2022, with an increase of 12% on 2021. Overall, imports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 34%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the four major importers of raspberries and blackberries, namely Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and France, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Italy (X tons), committing a 5% share of total imports. Austria (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +44.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Spain ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 61% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +44.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -8.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
