Germany represented the largest importer of goat or kid hides and skins in the European Union, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 48% of total imports in 2021. Poland (X tons) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (13%), Italy (8.3%), Portugal (5.3%) and the Czech Republic (4.9%). In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 66% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Portugal, the Czech Republic, Spain and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 27%.
Among the main importing countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +20.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 38%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
