Razor Market Size in the EU

In 2021, the EU razor market increased by 4.8% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Razor Production in the EU

In value terms, razor production rose remarkably to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 20% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in the EU

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of razors, when their volume increased by 17% to X tons. Total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -18.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 37%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, razor exports expanded slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 14%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 55% of total exports. Belgium (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons) and France (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 31% share of total exports. Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Spain (+15.8%), the Netherlands (+6.1%), Belgium (+4.6%) and the Czech Republic (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +15.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, France (-1.3%) and Slovakia (-1.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+13 p.p.) and Spain (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-3.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest razor supplier in the European Union, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 8% share.

In Poland, razor exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Czech Republic (+3.4% per year) and Belgium (-7.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -10% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Razor Imports

Imports in the EU

In 2021, purchases abroad of razors increased by 2.3% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +29.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, razor imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 23%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of razors, namely Belgium, Spain, Italy and France, represented more than half of total import. Germany (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X tons) and Romania (X tons). All these countries together held near 16% share of total imports. The following importers - the Czech Republic (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +20.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 37% share of total imports. Poland, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Sweden and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 49%.

Among the main importing countries, Romania, with a CAGR of +2.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 7.6%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
