The EU recovered fibre pulp market soared to $X in 2022, growing by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, recovered fibre pulp imports in the European Union rose markedly to X tons, increasing by 12% on the year before. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, recovered fibre pulp imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 50%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented the major importers of recovered fibre pulp, together constituting 78% of total imports. The following importers - Austria (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) - together made up 18% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +66.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 66% of total imports. Austria, Romania, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +12.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
