The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +46.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In value terms, rennet imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.8% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Denmark was the largest importer of rennet and concentrates thereof in the European Union, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 47% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together generating a 40% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to rennet imports into Denmark stood at +6.6%. At the same time, France (+11.7%), the Netherlands (+7.6%), Poland (+3.4%), Italy (+2.9%), Spain (+2.8%) and Germany (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, France emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +11.7% from 2012-2021.
