By contrast, France (-6.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+11 p.p.), Belgium (+2.6 p.p.) and Bulgaria (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Netherlands and France saw its share reduced by -1.8% and -16.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 46% of total exports. Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
Among the main exporting countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +12.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 7.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 17%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
In 2022, starch manufacture residues imports in the European Union amounted to X tons, with an increase of 7.5% on 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 18%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, starch manufacture residues imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the major importers of residues of starch manufacture in 2022, amounting to approx. 29% and 23% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together mixing up a 28% share of total imports. Denmark (X tons), Croatia (X tons), Greece (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest starch manufacture residues importing markets in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. Belgium, Italy, Denmark, Greece, the Czech Republic and Croatia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.
Italy, with a CAGR of +6.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -1.6% against the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, starch manufacture residues import price increased by +57.4% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
