Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, resinoids exports declined to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

France represented the largest exporter of resinoids in the European Union, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 40% of total exports in 2022. Spain (X tons) took a 21% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (18%). The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, France ($X) remains the largest resinoids supplier in the European Union, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.5% share.

In France, resinoids exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+10.3% per year) and Germany (-11.9% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+22.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

In 2022, approx. X tons of resinoids were imported in the European Union; remaining constant against the year before. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -13.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, Spain (X tons) and France (X tons) represented the major importers of resinoids in the European Union, together amounting to near 55% of total imports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (11%), Greece (6.4%) and the Netherlands (5.7%). Austria (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +40.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest resinoids importing markets in the European Union were France ($X), Spain ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 67% of total imports. The Netherlands, Greece, the Czech Republic and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.

Greece, with a CAGR of +42.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -27.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 37%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+7.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
