The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -31.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 25%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, roasted malt exports rose modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -15.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 22%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) was the major exporter of roasted malt in the European Union, constituting 63% of total export. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons), together mixing up a 25% share of total exports. Finland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +20.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest roasted malt supplying countries in the European Union were Germany ($X), Poland ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 66% share of total exports. The Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +17.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 10% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of roasted malt increased by 8.8% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 33%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, roasted malt imports surged to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.5% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Austria (X tons), Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Greece (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Croatia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented roughly 85% of total imports in 2022.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +37.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest roasted malt importing markets in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 35% of total imports. Italy, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Poland, Greece, Bulgaria and Croatia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 48%.
Among the main importing countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +27.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 6.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 10% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
