In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
France was the main importer of root or tuber harvesting machines in the European Union, with the volume of imports finishing at X units, which was approx. 32% of total imports in 2021. Germany (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Belgium (X units). All these countries together held near 36% share of total imports. The following importers - Austria (X units), Denmark (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Romania (X units), Sweden (X units), Hungary (X units), Italy (X units) and Slovakia (X units) - together made up 24% of total imports.
Imports into France increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Slovakia (+17.1%), Italy (+11.5%), Germany (+10.3%), Sweden (+7.1%), Hungary (+5.8%), Austria (+2.7%) and Romania (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +17.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Poland (-1.2%), Belgium (-1.4%), the Czech Republic (-1.6%), Denmark (-1.8%) and the Netherlands (-14.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of France (+13 p.p.) and Germany (+7.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of the Netherlands (-29.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, France ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported root or tuber harvesting machines in the European Union, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9% share.
In France, harvesting machinery imports increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (-2.0% per year) and Germany (+11.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, growing by 2.8% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
