The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Poland was the major exporter of seats convertible into beds in the European Union, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was near 67% of total exports in 2021. Romania (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Portugal (X units). All these countries together took approx. 18% share of total exports. The following exporters - Slovakia (X units), Germany (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) - together made up 6.4% of total exports.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+18.5%), Portugal (+8.8%) and Slovakia (+7.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +18.5% from 2012-2021. Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland and Portugal increased by +8.7 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 80% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Germany (X units) and France (X units) were the main importers of seats convertible into beds in 2021, accounting for approx. 25% and 17% of total imports, respectively. The Czech Republic (X units) held a 6.9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (6.7%) and Poland (5.9%). The following importers - Austria (X units), Croatia (X units), Spain (X units), Sweden (X units), Denmark (X units), Belgium (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Lithuania (X units) - together made up 24% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +21.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 51% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Croatia, the Netherlands and Lithuania, which together accounted for a further 34%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +20.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 25%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
