After two years of decline, the EU seat market increased by 23% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) was the largest exporter of seats in the European Union, constituting 63% of total export. France (X tons) took a 5.4% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Spain (5.1%). The following exporters - Belgium (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Romania (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) - together made up 19% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 56% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Denmark, Romania, France, Belgium, Lithuania, Spain, Sweden, Portugal and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

Denmark, with a CAGR of +9.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -2.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Seat imports surged to X tons in 2021, picking up by 32% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +94.8% against 2013 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, seat imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +75.1% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of seats, namely Germany, the Netherlands and France, represented more than half of total import. Italy (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Belgium (X tons). All these countries together held near 24% share of total imports. The following importers - Sweden (X tons), Denmark (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Greece (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 53% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Poland, Italy, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Greece, which together accounted for a further 36%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +19.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild decline. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
