The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

It was distantly followed by Italy (X units), Belgium (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and France (X units), together constituting a 39% share of total exports. The following exporters - Hungary (X units) and Poland (X units) - together made up 6.9% of total exports.

Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+20.7%), Belgium (+10.8%), Hungary (+8.2%), Italy (+7.6%), the Netherlands (+2.2%) and France (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +20.7% from 2012-2021. While the share of Belgium (+3.6 p.p.), Germany (+2.4 p.p.), Poland (+2 p.p.) and Italy (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of France (-2.6 p.p.) and the Netherlands (-3.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest diode supplier in the European Union, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with an 11% share.

In Germany, diode exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+14.9% per year) and France (+0.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -15.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +12.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 9.2% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 7.5% share.

In Germany, diode imports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (+8.7% per year) and France (+0.8% per year).
