Skis Market Size in the EU
After two years of decline, the EU skis market increased by 5% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Skis Production in the EU
In value terms, skis production contracted modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in the EU
In 2021, overseas shipments of skis for winter sports decreased by -4.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 12%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, skis exports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Austria represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 36% of total exports. France (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Bulgaria (9.6%), Germany (9.3%), the Czech Republic (8%), Spain (6.9%), Slovenia (6.7%) and Italy (6.1%).
Exports from Austria decreased at an average annual rate of -3.3% from 2012 to 2021. Spain, France and Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Bulgaria (-1.5%), the Czech Republic (-2.3%), Slovenia (-3.4%) and Germany (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Germany and Austria decreased by -2 and -4.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Austria ($X) remains the largest skis supplier in the European Union, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 12% share.
In Austria, skis exports contracted by an average annual rate of -1.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+3.0% per year) and Germany (-2.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, supplies from abroad of skis for winter sports decreased by -15.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. In general, imports saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 6.8% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, skis imports declined to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Austria was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 35% of total imports. France (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Sweden (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 43% share of total imports. The Netherlands (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Finland (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to skis imports into Austria stood at -2.2%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+16.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +16.3% from 2012-2021. Spain and Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Finland (-2.7%), France (-3.3%), Italy (-3.4%), Poland (-4.0%), Belgium (-5.7%), the Czech Republic (-6.7%) and Germany (-10.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Austria (+4 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Austria ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 59% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Sweden, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Poland and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 36%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +13.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+5.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
