Romania, with a CAGR of +38.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, declining by -6.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 3.8%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Smart card imports skyrocketed to X units in 2022, rising by 16% on the year before. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 33%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, smart card imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Imports by Country
France (X units), Germany (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) represented roughly 47% of total imports in 2022. It was followed by Spain (X units), Italy (X units), Poland (X units) and Austria (X units), together achieving a 28% share of total imports. The following importers - Slovakia (X units), Romania (X units), Portugal (X units), Sweden (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) - together made up 15% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +45.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 42% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +23.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-4.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
