The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sodium nitrate exports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 76% of total exports in 2022. Denmark (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together held near 15% share of total exports. Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sodium nitrate exports from the Netherlands stood at +38.8%. At the same time, the Czech Republic (+60.8%) and Spain (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Czech Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +60.8% from 2012-2022. Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Denmark (-7.5%) and Belgium (-9.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) emerged as the largest sodium nitrate supplier in the European Union, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Czech Republic ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the Netherlands totaled +32.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+63.9% per year) and Poland (+6.6% per year).

By contrast, Estonia (-1.4%), Germany (-3.2%), Italy (-3.4%), Poland (-4.2%), Sweden (-7.7%), Belgium (-15.5%) and Spain (-20.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+51 p.p.), France (+2.8 p.p.) and Austria (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Sweden (-1.5 p.p.), Belgium (-9 p.p.) and Spain (-46.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest sodium nitrate importing markets in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Spain ($X), together comprising 45% of total imports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +20.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
