The EU hand stamp market declined to $X in 2022, which is down by -9% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, approx. X units of stamps for use in the hand were exported in the European Union; waning by -6.4% against 2021. In general, exports showed a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hand stamp exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 28%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
Austria represented the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 49% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units), Italy (X units), Romania (X units), Spain (X units), Germany (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units), together mixing up a 42% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to hand stamp exports from Austria stood at -2.4%. At the same time, Romania (+79.8%), Spain (+9.4%), Italy (+3.8%) and the Czech Republic (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +79.8% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Netherlands (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Romania (+5.8 p.p.), Spain (+3.2 p.p.) and Italy (+3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Austria (-2.8 p.p.) and the Netherlands (-12 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Austria ($X) remains the largest hand stamp supplier in the European Union, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.9% share.
In Austria, hand stamp exports declined by an average annual rate of -3.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+2.6% per year) and Germany (-1.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU
Hand stamp imports contracted to X units in 2022, dropping by -2.5% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, hand stamp imports reduced to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the five major importers of stamps for use in the hand, namely Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, France and Poland, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Spain (X units) held a 5.9% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (5.1%).
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +12.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest hand stamp importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. Poland, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +10.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
