The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles exports shrank to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +86.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

The Netherlands was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 35% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons) and Belgium (X tons), together generating a 42% share of total exports. Italy (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Slovenia (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic ornamental articles exports from the Netherlands stood at +1.7%. At the same time, Hungary (+45.1%), Slovakia (+40.2%), Slovenia (+33.9%), Sweden (+13.6%), Ireland (+8.5%), Denmark (+7.7%), Poland (+4.8%), Spain (+4.6%), France (+2.7%) and Italy (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +45.1% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Hungary (+2.3 p.p.), Poland (+2.1 p.p.), Sweden (+2 p.p.), Slovenia (+1.6 p.p.), Slovakia (+1.6 p.p.) and Spain (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Germany (-2.1 p.p.) and Belgium (-8.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 58% share of total exports. Poland, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +29.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, leveling off in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in the EU

In 2022, imports of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic in the European Union declined to X tons, waning by -5.5% compared with 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.3% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main importers of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic, together creating 77% of total imports. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
