The shipments of the five major exporters of straight saw blades for working metal, namely Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany and Belgium, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Spain (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, straight saw blade imports in the European Union dropped slightly to X tons, which is down by -1.6% against 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 25%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, straight saw blade imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands was the main importer of straight saw blades for working metal in the European Union, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 29% of total imports in 2021. Belgium (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by France (9%), Germany (8.2%), Spain (7.7%), Sweden (7.1%) and Greece (4.6%). Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to straight saw blade imports into the Netherlands stood at -5.3%. At the same time, Greece (+30.9%), Slovakia (+24.9%), Belgium (+14.0%), Sweden (+9.8%), Spain (+9.2%), Romania (+4.6%), France (+3.5%) and Italy (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Greece emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +30.9% from 2012-2021. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Denmark (-4.8%) and Poland (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belgium (+9 p.p.), Greece (+4.1 p.p.), Spain (+3.9 p.p.), Sweden (+3.8 p.p.), France (+1.9 p.p.) and Slovakia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Poland and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by -3.3% and -22% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest straight saw blade importing markets in the European Union were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X), together accounting for 50% of total imports. France, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Poland, Greece, Slovakia and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
Greece, with a CAGR of +17.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
