In value terms, pasta and couscous exports totaled $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +85.9% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Italy was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 36% of total exports. Germany (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons), France (X tons), Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Poland (X tons). All these countries together took near 49% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to pasta and couscous exports from Italy stood at +3.8%. At the same time, Hungary (+16.0%), Poland (+13.8%), Austria (+13.5%), the Netherlands (+12.2%) and Germany (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +16.0% from 2012-2022. Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Netherlands, Austria, Hungary and Poland increased by +4.1, +3.5, +3 and +2.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest pasta and couscous supplier in the European Union, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.3% share.
In Italy, pasta and couscous exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+13.5% per year) and Germany (+6.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, rising by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

For the eleventh consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in overseas purchases of stuffed pasta and couscous, which increased by 6.6% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.8% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, pasta and couscous imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +93.9% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Austria (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) was the major importer of stuffed pasta and couscous in the European Union, constituting 87% of total import.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +11.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 51% share of total imports. Spain, Belgium, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Italy, the Czech Republic and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
Portugal, with a CAGR of +13.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 9.8%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
