The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, sweet biscuit exports expanded notably to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the third consecutive year, the European Union recorded growth in supplies from abroad of sweet biscuits, which increased by 3.7% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, sweet biscuit imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Romania, with a CAGR of +8.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 7.6%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
