Synthetic Latex Rubber Market Size in the EU

In 2021, the EU synthetic latex rubber market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, saw a pronounced reduction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, approx. X tons of synthetic latex rubber were exported in the European Union; surging by 12% compared with 2020 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, synthetic latex rubber exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) was the largest exporter of synthetic latex rubber, generating 50% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Finland (X tons), together comprising a 43% share of total exports. The following exporters - Spain (X tons) and France (X tons) - each finished at a 4.7% share of total exports.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of synthetic latex rubber. At the same time, Italy (+10.4%), Spain (+8.2%), the Netherlands (+4.3%) and France (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +10.4% from 2012-2021. Finland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-1.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Italy (+5.3 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belgium and Germany saw its share reduced by -3.7% and -6.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest synthetic latex rubber supplier in the European Union, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 13% share.

In Germany, synthetic latex rubber exports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+7.8% per year) and the Netherlands (-0.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 36% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible slump. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (-1.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU

In 2021, the amount of synthetic latex rubber imported in the European Union skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 24% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Austria (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented roughly 84% of total imports in 2021.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +10.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest synthetic latex rubber importing markets in the European Union were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 40% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Spain, Austria, France and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 40%.

Austria, with a CAGR of +6.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-1.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
