In 2021, approx. X tons of synthetic rubber were exported in the European Union; picking up by 14% compared with 2020 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, synthetic rubber exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild downturn. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Spain (X tons) represented the major exporters of synthetic rubber, together comprising 95% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 59% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain, which together accounted for a further 36%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +7.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in France ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) and the Czech Republic ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-1.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in the EU
In 2021, overseas purchases of synthetic rubber increased by 14% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, synthetic rubber imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of synthetic rubber imports in 2021 were Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Austria (X tons), together recording 91% of total import.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +6.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 43% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, France, Spain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Austria, which together accounted for a further 47%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +1.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 25% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced descent. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-2.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
