Table Linen Market Size in the EU

The EU table linen market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, table linen production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of table linen, knitted or crocheted, when their volume decreased by -2.9% to X tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 19%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, table linen exports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The biggest shipments were from Germany (X tons), Greece (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together accounting for 83% of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +64.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 42% share of total exports. Poland, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

Greece, with a CAGR of +42.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, growing by 3.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
